What is Saint Matthew Church?

Saint Matthew Church is an independent Catholic faith community in that we are not under the jurisdiction of the Pope nor are we subject to the canon law or the guidelines of the Roman Catholic Church. Though we share a common Catholic theology and liturgical tradition, we differ significantly in many of the disciplines and rules that govern the Church.  Take a look at the Distinctives link on the menu on the left for further details.

Who is Saint Matthew faith community?

Many of our members have come to Saint Matthew Church because of some issue of conscience.   They may disagree with some of the official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.  Specifically, this may include the issue of artificial contraception in family planning, or priestly celibacy, or the place of women in the ordained ministry, and other directives.  There are also those who were raised as Roman Catholics but due to some impediment, such as divorce and remarriage, are no longer allowed to receive the sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church.  And, finally, there are our Christian brothers or sisters of other denominations who, despite their faith and baptism in Christ, are excluded from the sacraments celebrated by Roman Catholics.
